I composed this piece for the 30th anniversary concert of the Seoul String Ensemble. This is a live recording of them performing it under the direction of Choi Hanwon in the Youngsan Art Hall, Seoul in May 2007.

In April 2006, I received a very unusual request: to give a talk to the President of Korea's Working Group on the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula and to follow this by giving an organ recital on the extraordinary instrument in Kyungdong Church.
For this unique occasion, I decided to compose a short Chorale Prelude on a Korean hymn.
I asked the organist of Kyungdong to suggest an appropriate hymn. She chose "Everything is dark and bleak, black waves rage".
The beautiful words of this hymn compare the precarious political situation in the divided Korean Peninsula with the story of the disciples of Jesus gripped by panic when a violent storm hits their little fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee.
May Jesus also stretch out his hand and calm the troubled waters of the Korean Peninsula.
